ABSTRACT
When the World Health Organization proclaimed 2020 the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, no one could have predicted that COVID-19 would expose so publicly the extraordinary work of nurses. Their courage, compassion, and skill have elicited gratitude of patients and families internationally. The DAISY Award has been honoring nurses, providing a structured program of ongoing meaningful recognition of nurses since 1999. This article presents the compelling voice of a DAISY nurse whose perspective on 2020 delves into the heart of nursing—nurses’ relationships with their patients that are built on their moments together—the moments DAISY honors.
